Parent Consultation

Supporting Anxious Children Starts With Supporting Parents

When children struggle with anxiety, bullying, or social stress, parents are often doing everything they can — and still feeling unsure what actually helps.

Parent consultation offers individualized, skills-based support for parents who want practical guidance, clarity, and confidence in responding to their child’s anxiety or social challenges.

This is not therapy for your child.
It is focused, collaborative support for you.

🧠 WHAT IS PARENT CONSULTATION?

Parent consultation is a short-term, individualized service designed to help parents understand what’s driving their child’s anxiety or social difficulties — and how to respond in ways that reduce distress rather than unintentionally maintain it.

Research consistently shows that children often make their strongest gains when parents are equipped with the right tools and responses at home. Parent consultation helps translate evidence-based strategies into real-life situations specific to your family.

Parents don’t cause anxiety — but parents can be powerful agents of change.

👨‍👩‍👧 WHO PARENT CONSULTATION IS FOR

Parent consultation may be a good fit if you are parenting a child or teen who:

  • Experiences anxiety, worry, or fear that interferes with daily life
  • Has social anxiety or difficulty making or keeping friends
  • Has been bullied or excluded and is struggling emotionally
  • Avoids school, activities, or social situations
  • Seeks constant reassurance or becomes easily overwhelmed
  • Appears capable but “stuck” in fear or avoidance

Many parents seek consultation when they feel unsure how much to push, how much to support, or how to help their child rebuild confidence after difficult experiences.

🛠️ WHAT WE WORK ON TOGETHER

Parent consultation is practical and collaborative. Sessions may focus on helping you:

  • Understand your child’s anxiety or social stress from the inside out
  • Respond to anxiety without reinforcing avoidance or fear
  • Reduce accommodation in a supportive, developmentally appropriate way
  • Support confidence and independence after bullying or social setbacks
  • Navigate school concerns, peer dynamics, and communication with educators
  • Feel calmer, clearer, and more confident in difficult moments

Each consultation is tailored to your child’s age, temperament, and specific challenges.

🧩 WHY PARENT CONSULTATION?

Children experience anxiety and social stress in many settings — but parents are the ones supporting them day to day.

Parent-focused interventions are strongly supported by research and are often an effective first step or complement to therapy. Many families find that parent consultation helps them feel more grounded and effective, even before additional services are needed.

For some families, consultation is enough.
For others, it helps clarify next steps.

Parent consultation is separate from child therapy and does not require ongoing treatment. I highly suggest trying out our parent group first to get the basics (and it’s more cost effective!) followed by consultation for more in depth questions and support.
