Parents Are the Primary Change Agents in Childhood Anxiety

When children struggle with anxiety, parents are often left carrying the weight—wondering if they’re helping, making things worse, or missing something important.
This 8-week parent skills group is designed to give parents practical, evidence-based tools to respond to anxiety in ways that actually reduce it—without blame, judgment, or pressure to “fix” your child.
💡 WHAT THIS GROUP IS (AND ISN’T)
This group is not therapy for you or your child.
It is skills-based parent coaching focused on what you can do at home, in daily life, where anxiety actually shows up. It it meant to give power and agency back to you and the family system.
Research consistently shows that when parents learn how to respond to anxiety differently, children often make stronger and longer-lasting gains—sometimes more than with child-only therapy alone.
Parents don’t cause anxiety.
But parents can change how anxiety is supported.
🧠 WHO THIS GROUP IS FOR
This group may be a good fit if you are a parent of an elementary or middle-school-aged child who:
- Worries excessively or avoids new situations
- Struggles with school attendance or separation
- Seeks frequent reassurance
- Has big emotional reactions or meltdowns related to anxiety
- Seems capable but “stuck” in fear
Parents often join feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or second-guessing themselves—and leave feeling calmer, clearer, and more confident.
🛠️ WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
In this group, parents will learn how to:
- Respond to anxiety without reinforcing it
- Reduce reassurance and accommodation in a supportive way
- Encourage brave behavior and independence
- Understand what helps anxiety vs. what unintentionally maintains it
- Feel more confident and less reactive in difficult moments
- Apply skills consistently at home and in school-related situations
This is a practical, skill-building group—not just a place to vent.
